Heavy Sweater Comics was soft-launched by Kevin Woolridge in February 2023 at the Hold Fast Zine Fest in St. John’s, Newfoundland, followed by the official company launch at the Cox & Palmer Second Space in November that same year. Our very first books included My Milkshake Brings All The Boys To The Yardarm by Andrew Hawthorn, and two books by Kevin, Fishsticks, and Andy and the Magic Box.

But the company’s origins actually go back a bit further with Little Grey Dog Comics and Games, started in 2007 as a self-publishing vehicle for Kevin’s The Little World. The Little World got its start as a series of drawings and stories in 2003, became a newspaper strip in 2007, and then a webcomic, minicomic series, graphic novel, and assorted merchandise in the following years.

Even further back, like a lot of cartoonists when they were kids, Kevin started making minicomics with his own little comic companies in 1987.

When Kevin decided to relaunch his company in 2022 to include publishing other cartoonists, a name change was in order, hence Heavy Sweater Comics was born!

As of 2025 Heavy Sweater Comics has published 10 local comics, with more on the way, and plans for card and board games as well. Heavy Sweater prides itself in a personal touch, staying close to its mandates as a small, indie, and local publisher.
